What We Do

We integrate our technology, people and physical assets to enable a truly efficient and sustainable supply chain.

Supply chains are sophisticated and complex. But a bias towards doing things how they’ve always been done means the industry in Australia looks a lot like it did 50 years ago. At the same time, consumers are demanding more than ever before, with freight transport expected to outpace population growth over the next decade^.

Just like for taxis pre-Uber, the travel accommodation space before AirBnB and retail before Amazon, technology isn’t being harnessed to its full potential. And just like in those industries, it’s time for change.

It has been estimated that a 1 per cent improvement in efficiency of logistics will generate $2 billion of gains to the economy per year*.

Right now, on any highway in Australia there will be a truck travelling hundreds of kilometres half-empty. ‘Shipping air’ in this way – loading a truck, plane, boat or railcar to less than capacity – creates countless negative consequences across the supply chain. First, the carrier doesn’t generate revenue, which threatens the viability of their business. To survive, they pass that cost onto the business shipping the goods, which must decide whether to pass on the cost to its consumer or erode shareholder value. Shared infrastructure like roads is degraded through increased use, and the environment bears the brunt of unnecessary carbon emissions.

Load maximisation isn’t the only area underperforming due to an absence of technological innovation. Without data, a lack of visibility across the supply chain makes it difficult to identify the source of problems when they occur let alone to identify emerging trends and areas of opportunity.

The roadmap to a new future is technology. Our world-class software engineers are working to develop a ubiquitous technology platform that will underpin a new logistics ecosystem. With a helicopter view of the entire system, FMH Group will aggregate and consolidate the data, enabling maximum efficiency for our customers from end to end.

Our History

FMH Group began in 2000 with a founder’s vision to improve freight management by fostering better relationships with transport carriers. The company we know today as efm was born. It is now the largest fourth-party logistics provider (4PL) in Australia and New Zealand, providing independent and strategic end-to-end supply chain management solutions.

The foresight that saw the Group’s creation also kept it moving forward at pace. After success improving traditional logistics, FMH set about re-defining success for the industry by developing the software platform we know today as OneFlo. Continued significant investment in technology will always be part of the Group’s philosophy.

Along the way, the Group has made and will continue to make strategic acquisitions of, and investments in, transportation and warehousing companies. The diversification provides confidence to customers amid a shifting industry landscape. It also supports our vision of a new kind of logistics ecosystem, where our people and physical assets are connected through a ubiquitous technology platform, enabling true supply chain efficiency.
